Local uranium expert Zach Larsen will be leading this trek out into the Gas Hills, the site of the first uranium found in Fremont County. We will be learning about the history of Wyoming’s uranium industry and exploring many of the sites in Gas Hills. Participants are responsible for bringing their own sack lunch and water.

Sophie Barksdale has been a co-producer for several EMMY nominated documentaries, including Who She Is, a documentary that focuses on Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women in the United States with a focus on Fremont County. Sophie will be discussing filmmaking in Fremont County, and specifically focusing on the Missing and Murdered Epidemic that exists in Wyoming.

“J.B. Okie Manor Adventure Trek”

Join the Riverton Museum on September 6th at 9am for a Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek to the J.B. Okie Manor.  Experience a rare tour led by the building’s caretaker around the sheep tycoon’s mansion build in 1901. This tour is filled with stories from Okie’s life, the history of the manor, and details of the home’s features.

“Split Rock Uranium Trek with Zach Larsen and the Department of Energy”

Join local uranium expert Zach Larsen on this adventure trek with the Riverton Museum out to the Split Rock Uranium Mill and Jeffrey City. We will be driving out as a group to the Split Rock Uranium Mill and receiving a presentation of the mill from the Department of Energy. We will then be exploring other important sites around the Jeffrey City area, before heading back to Riverton.
