“Riverton in Color: Dan Weeks Art Exhibition

October 2 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

free

Join us on October 2nd at 6pm as we celebrate the opening of our new art exhibition "Riverton in Color" by Dan Weeks!

Born in Webster Groves, Missouri, Dan attended Washington University and then joined the Peace Corps as a volunteer to work in Ecuador, Nepal, Niger, and Columbia. He directed a film about the Peace Corps with Lillian Carter, the mother of President Jimmy Carter. During his travels, he studied 19thcentury photo pictorial techniques like Bromoil and paper negatives and how to apply them to modern commercial processes. His photography portfolio was seen by Milton Glaser in New York City, who asked Weeks to illustrate F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last unpublished short story, On Your Own, which was featured on the cover of Esquire Magazine with an exhibition at Bloomingdale’s. The photos were seen by Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton who were doing pre-production for the film Reds.

Weeks then produced the historic hand painted stills featured in the film, which was shot in London, Finland, and Spain. Barbara Streisand then hired Dan to spend a year in Prague to shoot the stills for her film Yentl. This was followed by the poster for Sally Field’s Places in the Heart. He continued with commercial and editorial advertising, book covers, Billy Joel record covers, and assignments which took him to 50 countries around the world.

Many years later, Weeks retired to Riverton. He continues to pursue his love of painting and is incredibly passionate about the area. His love of Riverton’s landscapes prompted him to paint the same spot for over a year, culminating in his previous exhibition which showcased over 60 paintings of a pond near the Riverwalk.

Weeks has now turned his attention to the businesses, organizations, streets, and people of Riverton for his new exhibition “Riverton in Color.” Weeks is a passionate supporter of the museum, contributing time, money, and materials to create his exhibitions. He enjoys being able to help out the museum which is preserving the history and stories of a place he loves through and through.
