Dubois has a rich history of ranching which began in the 1900s, and there is no shortage of beautiful historic ranches in the area. Join us as we tour one of these historic ranches to learn about its history. To keep it fun, the location will be a surprise until a few weeks before the event! Be sure to bring water, lunch, and bug spray. Social distancing will be encouraged.
On August 14th at 10 a.m. the Pioneer Museum in Lander will host a Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek to the historic gold mining community of Miners Delight in the historic South Pass City/Atlantic City area. The gold rush in this area dates back to 1867 and is Wyoming’s most significant gold mining area. Visit the historic gold rush ghost town and learn about the history of the gold district at South Pass.
Event will start at the Dubois Museum and we will drive to another location to better view the night sky. We will see constellations, planets, and learn a few of the stories around how the constellations got their names!
The National Bighorn Sheep Center and Dubois Museum enjoy bringing our visitors our Annual Mystery Sheep Trap Trek, and this year is no different. Although the exact location is never known until a couple weeks from the date; you can be assured that the scenery will be beautiful, there will be difficult hiking up and down steep hills, and high clearance 4x4s and carpooling will be present.
