The Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek Series invites you to join Craig Bromley as we visit the famous Oregon Trail near South Pass. During our trek we will learn the significance of this particular site along the trail and its historical significance to Native Americans, Mountain and Emigrants who stopped here on their journeys west.
“Castle Gardens Adventure Trek”
Participants should meet at the Riverton Museum at 9am and we will drive as a group to Castle Gardens. There will not be a bus provided. Everyone is responsible for bringing their own sack lunch and water. $10.00 per person. View the petroglyphs at Castle Gardens and learn about the Bureau of Land Management’s efforts to preserve them. Reservations are required. This trek requires a good amount of walking so please dress accordingly.
“Lander Cemetery Trek”
The Pioneer Museum will host this Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek on May 11th at 10am. Participants will meet at the cemetery gates at 10 a.m. then take about a mile walk total through the cemetery to learn about some of the notable Lander pioneers buried there.
“Lava Mountain Geology Trek”
This trek is part of the Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek Series. Dr. Matt Brueseke of Kansas State University will lead a geology trek up Lava Mountain on July 6th at 9am. This will be an exciting opportunity to learn about volcanic activity up close.
