If you didn’t get enough Riverton ghost stories at the Discovery Speaker Series event, make sure to sign up for this Haunted Downtown Walking Trek! In this Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek, local educator and collector of ghost stories, Alma Law will guide us around downtown Riverton and show us where some of his favorite ghost stories occurred. After the walk, we’ll return to the museum and enjoy cookies and hot cocoa!
View the petroglyphs at Castle Gardens and learn about the Bureau of Land Management’s efforts to preserve them. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Riverton Museum at 307-856-2665. $20.00 per person. This trek requires a good amount of walking- Please dress accordingly.
The Pioneer Museum in Lander will present this Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek on August 27th from 10 am - 3 pm The Granier ditch. Learn about the famous Granier ditch, dug in 1882 to bring water to the South Pass area to hydraulically mine for gold. Remnants of the ditch are still visible.
Experience a rare tour of the J.B. Okie Mansion that was built in 1901 by J.B. Okie, a sheep tycoon in Lost Cabin, Wyoming. This tour is full of stories from Okie’s life, history of the manor, as well as details about the home’s features.
