Exploring Historic Computers
February 8 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
“Exploring Historic Computers” Feb 8th 2-4pm
Join the Riverton Museum for this Bailey Tire/Pit Stop Children’s Exploration Series program February 8th from 2-4pm at the Riverton Museum.
Computers existed all the way back to the 1940s, but unless you had a spare building to put it in, a spare substation to power the thing, a spare gazillion dollars to buy one, and a spare Ph. D. in electrical engineering, you probably didn't want one.
The home computer age dawned in the 1980s, but those computers evolved quickly, and were very different than the devices that we use on a daily basis today. At this STEM-focused event at the Riverton Museum, you will get to explore a number of very important early home computers. Find out how to write programs for the first computer that sold more than a million units. See if you can figure out how to get around without icons, a mouse, or a touchscreen. Test drive some of the very first mouse-driven interfaces. Play some of your parents' favorite games from elementary school. All that and more at this event! Kids of all ages are welcome, but this program is probably best suited to those 10+ years old.
